Speech in Meeting with Police Commanders Nationwide on the Occasion of Eid al-Fitr
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I extend my congratulations on the blessed Eid al-Fitr to the entire dear nation of Iran and the Muslims of the world, especially to you, dear brothers of the Islamic Republic of Iran's police force. God willing, this Eid will mark the beginning of a blessed phase for our military and police forces.
Thanks be to God, regarding the police force, the major tasks, namely decision-making and passing laws, especially their very rapid, intensive, and prudent implementation, have been accomplished. What remains is for this unified police force to practically prove its capabilities and efficiencies.
Security is a fundamental and important issue. Social order is a primary matter. The optimal efficiency of any society is in accordance with its optimal order. If there is no order, or if it is lacking, efficiencies will be reduced.
The police force must establish order and security according to the duties assigned by law throughout the country, especially in border areas, and particularly in some regions where sometimes bandits disrupt order and security. This is the main and primary point. You must prove that the police force of the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses the competence and efficiency to bear the entrusted responsibility.
Another important point, without which the primary goal will not be achieved, is the spread of the spirit of faith and piety in all your ranks. All of us have lived in this country for many years and are aware of the culture and past and the mental reflections of the people. We know that if in the past, in a corner of the country, there was an active, faithful, and virtuous commander, the people in that area were pleased with the police force under that person's command, and even fond of it. Conversely, wherever there was a commander with weak faith and other negative traits—which need not be specified—the people in that area were discontented with that police force.
This pertains to the years before the revolution; but now, thanks be to God, the country's police organization, with the establishment of this current and unified force, has reached its maturity. You must ensure that this faith, purity, and virtue, this high-mindedness in dealing with people's lives, property, and honor, and this independence of character from faith, become widespread and pervasive. Wherever the opposite is observed, the force's officials should confront it without hesitation. Of course, the ideological and political share in spreading this spirit, feeling, and faith should be significant and, God willing, it will be. We hope that the dear clerical brothers will succeed in fulfilling this duty in the best possible manner, and that in the not-too-distant future, we will see the force as it should be.
We hope that you, dear brothers, wherever you are, will be blessed with divine success and grace, and that the honorable Minister of the Interior, who has truly worked hard, will continue to pay attention to the major issues of this force and continue until it reaches its appropriate and deserving position.
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings
