Statements of His Eminence in the Meeting and Allegiance of the Managers and Experts of the Ministry of Intelligence
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I must thank the dear brothers who provided this opportunity to express gratitude for their tireless and silent efforts and devotion.
Imam Khomeini (may his soul be sanctified), despite not having prior experience with intelligence matters, was very attentive to this issue. He valued the Ministry of Intelligence and its officials so highly that I have not seen a similar example for any other institution. This demonstrated the intellectual maturity of that great man, who viewed everything through the lens of divine wisdom.
He wisely stated: The brothers engaged in the intelligence front are anonymous soldiers. This is truly the case. You are engaged in a front where the danger, conspiracy, and effort are no less than the military front. You have forsaken the apparent honors and excitements and the praise usually found in military work, and you toil in this trench. God willing, may God protect you all and grant you success, so that your minds and wills remain bright and strong, and the weapon of intelligence and innovation, which is your primary weapon, becomes sharper than ever.
Your recent successful effort, which led to the dismantling of a dangerous intelligence and arrogant network within the country, was truly a great, commendable, and valuable work that was jointly carried out with the dear brothers of the Army's intelligence protection, dismantling a dangerous network that included all kinds of members—clerics, military personnel, merchants, and others. God willing, may God accept it from you.
Of course, the enemy will not relent and will not stop its conspiracy; it takes a blow but prepares itself for the next strike; and without a doubt, the enemy's next strike will consider its shortcomings in the first strike. That is, it will carefully see how and through what means you were able to deliver a blow to it, and it will certainly secure that breach. The enemy makes its greatest effort in accurately assessing its weak point and, with the ready, organized, and strong apparatus it has, quickly finds its weaknesses and compensates for them. You must also deliver another innovative blow in the next round.
The initiative is always in the hands of the attacker; for this reason, he chooses the method of confrontation. You must use your intelligence to find the method he has chosen among hundreds of possibilities and return it to him. When you, as the intelligence apparatus of Islam and truth, attack and strike them, this equation will be reversed; that is, they must see what method you are using.
Their work is harder because they do not know our methods. Their methods are predictable, standard, and quasi-standard. Tools, money, influence, and sexual desires are known methods that are usually combined with innovation and deliver their blow; but your methods are unknown to them, and for this reason, their work is more difficult. You use faith, religion, effort, and more toil, which is the strength of your work, and understanding all of this is not easy for them.
When the enemy attacks, the initiative is in his hands; you must be fully alert and maintain your readiness like the war front; because we do not know from where the enemy will attack; it may attack from the middle front or from above and below. In any case, we must be awake everywhere. You must always be awake along the front, which is certainly spiritually much longer than our borders, and immediately return the blow to them.
Even now, they are at work. Currently, American and British spies and other arrogant regimes are among the people, various institutions, and religious seminaries and intend to strike at the system and the revolution. It is you who must pursue them with your high determination and reliance on God and neutralize their plans.
The scene you are engaged in is a very strange scene. Perhaps among the trenches where the Islamic Republic fights—fighting in its specific sense of grappling and striking and being struck—there is no trench more virtuous than yours; because always and everywhere, the danger from the enemy's intelligence infiltration is greater.
In the matter of war, if we struck more and were struck less, it was because we conducted worthy and excellent intelligence work. One cannot go to war with closed eyes; one must see the enemy with open eyes and estimate the place of its strike to give a more crushing response in return.
Your counterintelligence work is very important; even more important and virtuous than offensive intelligence and military work. A great trench is at your disposal; be careful not to lose your sincerity. If you can work for the people, the revolution, and Islam with the same sincerity, purity, and compassion, and purify your feelings, motivations, and intentions, know that you are victorious and no factor can strike you; the divine reward is also preserved in its place; "and what is with God is better and more lasting."
The greatest reward for a person who strives is his success; but what you have with God is more valuable and higher than worldly joys. Keep this trench strong and do not become discouraged, tired, or doubtful for a moment; cooperate with each other.
God willing, may God be pleased with you and grant you success and unite the pure and sacred soul of our dear Imam with his saints and place you under His approval.
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings
