Statements in Meeting with Central Members of the Revolutionary Movement Hezbollah of Lebanon
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
In my view, what happened to our dear martyr, Mr. Sayyid Abbas Mousavi, is the best outcome that can be imagined for a Mojahed in the path of God. For someone who strives in the way of God, nothing better can be imagined. We also have this wish; however, he succeeded and reached his destination sooner. Of course, his absence is a tragedy for us; and for the scene of Lebanon and especially Hezbollah, it is a sacrifice in the path of God. The late martyr Sayyid Abbas Mousavi was a distinguished person; he combined many good qualities; he combined religion, piety, and composure with intelligence and courage. We had experienced his devotion on the scene of Lebanon. Here, we ourselves had closely felt his fervor and concern for the issue of Lebanon. I do not forget those difficult and distressing days of internal conflicts in Lebanon when he came here to us and sat in a meeting with us for almost seven hours to reach a conclusion; and I saw how passionate and concerned he was about the issues of the people and the Mojahedin. May God have mercy on him and gather him with His saints and grant him and his family abundant reward for the oppression that befell him in addition to his martyrdom. I once again offer congratulations and condolences to the family, relatives, friends, and parents of Mr. Mousavi for his martyrdom and that of his wife and child.
This responsibility today rests on your shoulders, our dear brother, Mr. Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah. We look at you with the same regard and have always loved and deemed you worthy from the bottom of our hearts. We thank God for this good choice and brotherly say that the burden of responsibility is very heavy. Although you are, thanks be to God, prepared, you must prepare yourself more day by day. The people, as you reported, have offered their spirit and body; therefore, the responsibility is very heavy. The enemy is also brutal and savage; all aspects must be considered in movement. Firstly, jihad must be considered fundamental; secondly, caution and prudence must be employed in this work; thirdly, the complex scene of Lebanon must be approached intelligently. In jihad, the people are fundamental; as much as possible, their trust must be gained. The quantitative and qualitative increase that, thanks be to God, is in your program is one hundred percent approved by us.
In my belief, the most important thing in your mind should be to rely on God and truly—in the real sense of the word—seek help from Him and implore Him. Our individuals are nothing but weak; this weakness must be connected to the infinite power of the Lord so that we become completely invulnerable. I know your purity and sincerity; but day by day, this must increase. Increase your supplications and attentions to the Lord. The supererogatory prayers—especially the night prayer—are an important means. See how God Almighty speaks to His Prophet in Surah Al-Muzzammil. After commanding him to rise at night and supplicate in the middle of the night, He says: 'Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.' (Al-Muzzammil: 5) Of course, his rising is different from ours; naturally, the burden that was on his shoulders was different from the burdens on our thin and weak shoulders; correspondingly, we are also small and weak, and the same practice is necessary for us. I found in the life of our great Imam (may God's mercy be upon him) that when a great unprecedented burden was placed on his shoulders, he strengthened himself with spiritual and heartfelt connection. In recent years, he usually did not meet anyone during Ramadan. When I visited him after Ramadan, I clearly saw that he had become more radiant; it was because of this radiance that he stood like a mountain until the last months of his life. Old age is usually a time of physical and spiritual weakness and decline in a person; but a young person is strong in both spirit and body; however, this must be connected to God Almighty so that nothing can penetrate him. In any case, in this great struggle that is before you and must be continued, I consider strengthening the spiritual side obligatory.
Another point is that this enthusiasm and excitement of the people is genuine; but it is not clear how long these sincere feelings will last on their own. Time makes everything old; therefore, what exists today and is at your disposal must be used as a great asset. What has been done—these conflicts and these resistances—has been good; but this situation must be used for stronger and firmer organization, creating unity on the scene, and establishing inviolable principles.
We pray for you and hope that God willing, our prayers for you and the people of Lebanon and for the general situation of Muslims will be answered. We also ask for your prayers; please pray for us as well.
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings
