Statements in Meeting with Members of the Follow-up Committee on UN Security Council Resolution 598
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Firstly, I must sincerely thank you, dear brothers from various departments, who pursued the extensive and challenging efforts to advance Resolution 598, and also those from different sectors who occasionally collaborated with you in these matters. Secondly, I congratulate you for the successful outcome of your efforts, thanks be to God.
We witnessed divine assistance throughout the war and in various sectors; this is one of those aids. In every war, alongside the military front, there is also a political front, with conditions somewhat similar to the military front. If we assume that in the military field, some entities in the world, for example, a large conglomerate, assist the enemy, it is unreasonable to expect that those who helped them would now come to our aid in the political front.
Assistance to our enemy was present in both fronts. Although the political front was not tangible for all people and departments, it was entirely perceptible for you and those involved in foreign policy issues. The cold diplomatic atmosphere, the strange conspiracies emerging globally against the Islamic Republic, the massive, uniform propaganda wave from east to west to reactionaries, were part of what we saw mirrored in the battlefields and the modern weapons and ammunition provided to our enemy.
Thanks be to God, in both fields, faith and love for the goal, and sincerity for Almighty God, played their role. In the military scene, thanks be to God, our military forces—army, IRGC, Basij, and our commanders—fought with sacrifice and astonished the enemy, and correspondingly, the diplomatic front was active; we truly witnessed this. I saw the efforts and hardships our brothers endured; this is the result.
The promise of God, "If you help God, He will help you," is not false. This clear promise is neither an ambiguous verse nor has any ambiguity in its meaning; it is entirely evident. You might expect "If you help God, He will help you" to be realized immediately; no, that is an excessive expectation; it will not happen at that moment; but ultimately, it will not fail. Undoubtedly, God will assist you—"He will help you"—this is an example. This should be a lesson for us; as it is, thanks be to God.
Those who opposed the Islamic Republic truly became the embodiment of "And whoever turns away from My remembrance, indeed, he will have a depressed life." They turned away, and Almighty God also made it difficult for them. Divine severity is one of those strange things; it manifests where it is least expected.
Look at what is happening now. When I observed the events in Eastern Europe from the day they began, one truly feels things. The stance of countries and their type of interaction has found a clear connection with these events now unfolding here. What hand and what factor is this? What unknown law in our lives is this that so dominates all known contractual laws? You see that suddenly a fortress collapses, crumbles, and disappears; this is certainly not without cause. Those unknown factors reveal themselves here; and certainly, part of these stances towards divine faith in these disintegrated countries and these collapsed empires—meaning disbelief in God—has been one of the factors.
Today, perhaps the Westerners' perception or at least their propaganda is that the Soviet Union reached this conclusion due to the failure of the socialist experiment, that the wrong economy was realized after seventy years; meaning the collapse of the socialist system is attributed to another experiment, or an experiment to demonstrate the strength of capitalist societies' foundation! This is wrong; this calculation is not correct at all; it has nothing to do with this issue; the matter must be sought elsewhere; the issue is hostility towards religion and severance from spiritual faith. Wherever and to whatever extent this negative factor exists, to that extent, decay and destruction await it. Of course, as I said, one should not expect it to happen tomorrow. Those countries that oppose religion in other ways—although not with those symbols and icons—should expect such a situation. This century, as it appears, God willing, is the century of humanity's general inclination towards spirituality and religion.
In any case, what we have is by the blessing of Islam. The revolution's emergence was by the blessing of Islam. If Islamic faith and the depth of this faith in hearts did not exist, it would have been impossible, after the past experiences of this country—especially in the recent century—for any powerful hand to mobilize these people. What created that unparalleled leadership for us was religious faith; meaning, to the extent you calculate the strength and spiritual power of Imam Khomeini (may his soul be sanctified), to that extent, you must calculate his religiosity and faith and the spiritual attraction that surged within him.
The perseverance of these people after the revolution's victory, the formation and survival and rooting of the Islamic Republic system to the current state, and progress in various directions, and the fate of the imposed war, and the fate of the many wars we have had in the political and economic world, all leaning towards the victory of truth—even though in many of them we are midway—all of them are due to our Islamic faith and the Islamic beliefs of these people; we must preserve it. In our statements, in our actions, in our orientations and adoption of various policies, this must be our criterion. No consideration should override religious consideration and prevail over it. All our considerations and decisions must be compared with the criterion of religious faith and Islamic prescription and judged whether it is correct or not. This is our path to progress; it is what will encourage this nation towards the officials and keep them behind them.
Now, observe the collapse of this Soviet empire. The primary and direct factor in this collapse is the disconnection from the people; they have nothing to do with the people. There is no relationship between this leadership and the people; meaning, the leadership cannot rely on the people; otherwise, if they could rely on the people, could American propaganda and their political maneuvering in the past year and a half have been so decisive in the Soviet situation? Nothing has been as influential and decisive in the current Soviet situation as American propaganda and their political games. They advanced the issues step by step to this point; now, after this, may God help these republics—and especially the larger ones—in what they will face! The reason is that they do not have the people by their side. Any system not connected and attached to its people cannot plan securely for the long term and the future.
Our people are religious and devout. The most important factor in maintaining this belief and this good connection is the movement you have, thanks be to God; the religious movement and respect for religion and adherence to Islamic regulations. In any case, we are very grateful to you gentlemen. We thank God for granting this victory to the Iranian nation; and this is a very great victory. Although the subsequent stages of this, as you have planned, must be pursued and are very important; however, from the start, the greatness of the victory has become apparent. Perhaps it is necessary to fully explain to the Iranian nation what has been achieved and how great it is. This is very important and truly a consolation for all the Iranian nation and those who have endured the losses of the imposed war.
We hope, God willing, that divine favors will continue for you and all officials and the nation, and that Almighty God, with His favors and the special attention of the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for him), will grant more joys day by day; one of these joys was indeed the recent trip of our honorable President, which truly made the people happy and removed many sorrows from their hearts. In my opinion, there is no greater charity than making these people, who deserve happiness, happy; and this trip—both attending that conference and the trip to Sudan—and your actions, gentlemen, truly made the people happy. These things are not obtained by chance. We have been involved, and we know that what comes about is the result of effort, hardship, sacrifice, and many pains, which, thanks be to God, its product appears in this way. God willing, you will be successful and supported.
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings
